This book just isn’t for me. The reason I am DNFing it is because I don’t care about the characters or plot, I feel like the RH romance is subpar, and, at the end of the day, I realized that I can completely walk away from this book and I don’t have even an inkling to pick it back up. That is not the feeling I want to have when I read a book. I feel like the author is rushing the story in places that she shouldn’t be (like the romance) and slowing parts down that she shouldn’t be (like the investigation that her mom is doing for her book).

This book was originally published as a regular romance (with just one love interest) and I can definitely see evidence of that in the way that the book is written. Certain love interests just feel thrown in there and the MC falls for them magically overnight. I need more substance to my romances then what this book has which is ultimately the main reason I am dropping it. At the end of everything, I just don’t care if the characters end up together or not and that is not how I should be feeling as a character driven/emotional reader.

Synopsis:

There are a million reasons Gabe should ignore his attraction to Jamie. He needs her horse-training skills on his family’s ranch…and the Dodge brothers would happily hurt him for touching her. Forget kissing her. He’d be a dead man. But Jamie’s tough-talking attitude masks an innocence that tempts him past the breaking point…and soothes the restlessness that’s dogged Gabe his whole life. Has this cowboy finally found a place he wants to call home?

*I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*

I really liked this book. It was a great addition to the series and I had a lot of fun while reading it. I became immersed in the love story between the two characters quickly and I did not want to let go.

Jaime- Jaime was such a strong woman both physically and emotionally. I loved the progression of her character and watching her come to terms with her mother’s death. I admired her a lot and appreciated the journey she went through.

Gabe- Poor Gabe was a pawn in a game he didn’t even know he was playing. I felt a lot of compassion towards his character and he really pulled on my heart strings. I loved his quirky romanticism and his hot cowboy moves.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The banter between Jaime and Gabe was just the right formula for word foreplay for me. I NEED more books in this series and I can’t wait for more of Gold Valley! I need my next fix of hot cowboys and fiery women… and hopefully some firemen in there… maybe.

Sunshine and Bullets (The Bullets #1) by Coralee June

Sunshine and Bullets (The Bullets #1) by Coralee June

Synopsis:

Sunshine.

It’s a nickname I haven’t heard since I lived on Woodbury Lane, where the houses were pretty but the secrets? Deadly. It was a pet name known only to the Bullets. Rough, violent, and ruthless, they laid claim to the town — and my heart.

I wasn’t supposed to fall for a boy from the wrong side of the tracks—especially not four of them. But they were the only ones who understood that sometimes hell hides in plain sight.

I was the girl with all the conveniences a privileged upbringing could provide. The world only saw two loving parents and a pristine home life, but I knew the truth. And it was going to get me killed. So, I disappeared, from everyone and everything I’d ever known. I changed my name and my appearance, but the scars I carry, they’re still the same.

The Bullets are all grown up now, too — a crime boss, a pro fighter, a bounty hunter, and a federal agent. Life took them in different directions, but they once shared the bonds of a brotherhood forged under the harshest conditions. Together they were fearless. Brutal. Unstoppable.

I’m praying they can find that unity again. If I’m going to survive this, it’ll take everything they have. Because that’s the thing about running from the past.

Eventually, it catches up to you.

🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁

MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:

“Being friends with the Bullets was like a drug, and I was an addict. One taste was never enough.”

Wow… I can honestly say that I was not expecting that. I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did or enjoy it even a tenth of how much I did. I was constantly on the edge of my seat, my heart was being torn in all different kinds of directions, and I did not want to put this book down. It had me hooked from the very beginning and I couldn’t have let go even if I wanted to. This book truly is a masterpiece.

“At the core of my personality was just a broken girl that loved too deeply.”

Summer/Sunshine- I fell in love with Summer’s past self and her present one. She is written beautifully and I deeply admire her. She has a hidden strength in her that a lot of people don’t and her story is one that I will never forget. It touched me deeply and her character really struck a cord in me. I can’t imagine going through what she did and the fact that she survived it all is truly a miracle.

“Gavriel wanted to control me. Blaise wanted to see me. Callum wanted to save me. Ryker wanted to punish me.”

Gavriel- Gavriel is one of those characters that calls to me in a way that he shouldn’t. He’s not the hero and certainly not the good guy. In a different book he could easily be the villain of the story. He’s hard, demanding, controlling, and sometimes he is just downright cruel. But… I get him. He’s not perfect and he’s never gonna be. He doesn’t disillusion anyone by trying to be something he’s not. Gavriel’s realistic and that part of his personality speaks to me more than anything else.

“You have to fight evil with evil. The road to justice isn’t lateral. Sometimes, it’s messy.”

Blaise- Blaise is the wanna be playboy/sarcastic guy that found the one and doesn’t know what to do about it. He does what he can to make her notice him, but what he truly doesn’t get is that she already did. Blaise is insecure and raw and I just want to hold him and make it all better.

“He saw the world like none other, but he couldn’t see himself.”

Ryker- It took a little while for the true Ryker to come through, but when he finally did, I loved him more than I thought I could. He is broken and damaged and insecure and lonely and scared. All he wants is for people to just stop leaving him and it broke my heart. He is this gruff fighter on the outside, but on the inside, he feels things deeper than all of the others do. His character is flawed and broken and I want to do anything I can to make it all better.

“You know what makes a person strong, Sunshine? It’s not their ability to hurt someone,” he began with a frown, “it’s their ability to take a hit.”

Callum- Out of the guys, Callum is the one I least connected with. That is not to say that I didn’t still love him, he just wasn’t as focused on in my opinion. He is taking his time coming around to the situation and I didn’t realize how he fit with the rest of the group until the end. He is just as broken as the rest of the guys are, he just hides it better than they do. Callum wants security and a family and, at the end of the day, isn’t that we all want? To be loved and to know that the ones we love will always be there? I get that. And that is why I fell for Callum as a character.

“It’s only when you’ve lost everything that you start to treasure the things you find.”

Nix- I LOVE NIX. He is one of my favorite characters (even though he was only in like 5% of this book. I loved everything about him and he always said what I was thinking inside my head. I need him in the next book. Badly.

“The road to hell and back was littered with casualties.”

Mr. Bright- I knew he was villainous and depraved, but I didn’t realize how much until the end of this book. Those couple pages in his “lair” made me absolutely sick and I am dreading his eventual return. As a villain, he is soundly scary and gives me the creeps.

“But love wasn’t enough when you were up against the devil.”

What I Liked Loved- I loved everything about this book. From the character drama, to the villain, to the past-present layout of the book, to the plot of the book itself. I’m going to say now, I am NOT a plot person. I am a character person through and through. It takes a lot to make me care about a plot and that is what this book did.

“I’ve always been content to be their lowkey secret. I’d rather know their hearts than see what everyone else saw.”

What I Didn’t Like- Nothing. This book was absolute perfection.

“The world broke us, and the only way we’ll ever feel whole again is with each other.”

Obviously, I highly enjoyed this book and will be continuing the series. I love these characters and I deeply care about what happens to them. I equally can’t wait and dread reading the next book. I want my babies to remain safe and in a happy bubble, even though I know that that isn’t going to happen. This is labeled dark for a reason. Unhappiness and tragedy come with the territory.

Today’s Top 5 Wednesday topic one that I am really excited about. It is: Love Interests You Would Have Broken Up With.

Let me start off by saying that I am a hopeless romantic and I don’t usually come across a lot of love interests that I dislike. But, when I do dislike a love interest, I tend to REALLY dislike them. Like hate their guts dislike them. So, I borderline hate the following people:

Image result for adam shatter me fanart

∴ Adam Kent from The Shatter Me Series

*SPOILERS BELOW*

I disliked Adam from the start. I didn’t have to read book two to know that he wasn’t going to end up being the good guy. But after his actions in books two and three, I absolutely hate him. Some of the things that he said to Juliette were just atrocious and I could not stand the thought of Adam after that.

My review of the books where I go deeper into my thoughts on him can be found using these links:

Unravel Me (Shatter Me #2) by Tahereh Mafi | Ignite Me (Shatter Me #3) by Tahereh Mafi

Image result for mal grisha fanart

∴ Mal from The Shadow and Bone Trilogy

*SPOILERS BELOW*

Mal was a horrible love interest and he only wanted Alina when he saw someone else giving her attention. I wasn’t going to finish the trilogy anyways, but after I heard that Alina ended up with Mal, I knew there is definitely no way that I would come back to it. I HATE him. He was a stupid love interest to begin with, but the fact that he actually ended up with her is appalling. I just don’t understand what Leigh Bardugo was thinking.

Uhh… I need to move on or else I will be here all day…

Image result for tamlin acotar fanart

∴ Tamlin from The ACOTAR Series

*SPOILERS BELOW*

I don’t think that I could describe to you in actual words how much I HATE Tamlin. He did things in ACOMAF that make my blood boil just thinking about them. What he did in ACOWAR did NOT redeem him in my eyes. I’m pretty sure that nothing ever will. How Rhys treated him in ACOFAS was absolutely justified and I was smiling the whole time.

Image result for nathan ghost bird

∴ Nathan from The Ghost Bird Series

Let me start off by saying that I don’t HATE Nathan. I just find him incredibly inconvenient to the story and the progression of the group’s relationship. He does stupid things and puts himself in situations (like the one at the end of Love’s Cruel Redemption) that affects the whole group. He just doesn’t think and it is incredibly annoying.

Image result for blake scarab beetle

∴ Blake from The Scarab Beetle Series

I just don’t get Blake or how he has gotten so far in the series. He does some absolutely horrible things in the first book and he hasn’t done anything to redeem himself except for apologize. It’s no enough. I have accepted that he is going to be a part of Kayli’s harem, but I certainly don’t support it.

My review of the books where I go deeper into my thoughts on him can be found using these links:

Liar (The Scarab Beetle #2) by C.L. Stone | Fake (The Scarab Beetle #3) by C.L. Stone

Thank you for joining me on Top 5 Wednesday! This was a really fun topic to do and one of my favorites so far. What are some love interests that you would break up with? Do you agree with me on my picks?

The Dark Princes (The Ravager Chronicles #2) by Sara Page

Synopsis:

The sequel to Princess SOS

I’m alive.

I survived the wilds of that remote planet I crashed into, and I’ve been trying to get to know my new alien lover before I return home and introduce him to my father. Yeah, so not looking forward to that introduction but at least I’m not knocked up… yet.

Everything is going great until we intercept a transmission from my home planet. Apparently my jerk of a stepbrother has been telling everyone I’m dead, and they believe it. There’s been a funeral for me and everything.

So now it’s a race home to prove to everyone I’m still alive and breathing before they pass on my crown and title to the next girl in the line of succession.

And if that’s not enough on my plate, another alien has decided to step forward and he’s claiming I’m his, like we’re fated or something. Ha! And I don’t even like the guy, seriously can not even stand him.

And you’d think my current alien lover would be mad… But no, he insists on bringing the other alien guy along because he’s convinced I need the extra protection.

One Ravager? I think I can handle it.

But two sexy red-eyed purple space demons? Two might prove to be too much for this princess…

The Dark Princes is the second installment in the Ravager Chronicles series.

🍁🍁🍁

“Hate can make even the most beautiful people look ugly.”

MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I liked this book. I didn’t like it as much as the first installment though. The first book was more character focused (in my opinion) and while there was some character development in this book, I felt like it was a lot more plot focused. I am simply not a plot person. I can read a book with absolutely no plot and still enjoy it if I love the characters. That is just how I am so, naturally, this book didn’t appeal to me as much as the first one.

Ameia- I’m not gonna lie, Ameia pissed me off more often than not in this book. I just don’t get how she comes to the conclusions that she does or how she makes decisions. I would probably do the opposite of almost everything she does. I just feel like she doesn’t think things through and gets herself into more trouble than she was originally in. This can be severely frustrating to me as the reader.

Beast- I felt like Beast took a little bit of a backseat in this book. I didn’t get to see as much of him as I would have liked. I feel like this book was solely focused on developing Ameia and Striker’s relationship, so Beast just got pushed aside. This is a shame because he’s my favorite character in this series so far.

Striker- I don’t know how I feel about Striker. I think that I was supposed to fall for his character more than I did. I think he just came in too late and I was already too attached to Beast. Something just didn’t sit right with me about shipping Striker and Ameia. I think a lot of it has to do with how Striker was introduced in the first book. I think it also has to do with how Striker finally got Ameia to accept him. I didn’t like it and it didn’t feel completely consensual to me. He literally asked her when she had no other choice. And is it really a choice when you have no other options?

Vrillum- I knew from book one that he was a bad guy. I didn’t fully comprehend how evil he was until this book though. He was truly sick and twisted and I am SO GLAD that he is dead. I just wish it wouldn’t have been as quick and painless.

Overall, I did enjoy this book. At this point though, I don’t really see myself continuing. I’m not really invested in most of the characters and I don’t care about the Blackspire civil war plot AT ALL. There just isn’t enough substance for me to continue.

MINOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I loved this book! I am not normally a fan of sci-fi romance, but I wanted to try something different and I am so glad that I did! It exceeded the expectations that I had for it and I finished it in one sitting because I could not put it down.

Ameia- I liked Ameia. Even though she made a couple of decisions that I didn’t agree with, I felt like she did the best she could given her situation. I know that I would not have handled being stranded on a weird planet and having a purple alien stalking me well. In fact, I probably would have died if I would have been in her situation.

Beast- Considering the fact that Beast doesn’t speak for the majority of this book, his personality came off very strong. He was a fierce, dominating, and possessive male character… In other words, my favorite book boyfriend type. I loved him and, when he could finally communicate with Ameia, I loved him even more. I am so excited to delve into his character more now that he can talk and express himself.

Overall, I highly enjoyed this book and I will be continuing the series. I want to see more of this world and these characters. This series is labeled as a Reverse Harem and that was what initially drew me to it. I have not seen any evidence of an RH yet, but I am excited at the possibility. I can’t wait to start the next book, The Dark Princes.

I liked this book. I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first book though. I just had too many issues with it. For one, there isn’t enough build up for me. Everything I want is just being handed to me entirely too easily and I feel like the story is just moving too fast. I can barely get attached to the scene or what is happening to the characters because it goes by too quickly. I also don’t have any fear for the characters when they are in dangerous situations. I know that they will be fine and I just don’t care enough about the characters individually. I’m not emotionally invested at all. Overall, this just wasn’t the book for me and I will not be continuing the series. This is really a shame because it had a lot of potential.

“When you become Alpha, always keep your friends close and your enemies closer. And never let them know that they are your enemy until you are ready to play your hand.” His eyes bore into mine. “And never play your hand until you know you will win.”

I really liked this book. It was fast paced, constantly had my attention, and I finished it in one sitting because I could not put it down. The plot was unique and different which I enjoyed. There were also a few plot twists that I was not expecting which is always a plus.

Elizabeth- I really enjoyed Elizabeth as a main character. She was sassy and strong, but she also had an undertone of concern and self-doubt that made her very realistic. I appreciated it and made me connect with her character super easily.

The Guys- I didn’t get to see as much of the guys as I would have liked. I felt like Hunter took main stage for this book and all of the other guys were background noise. I mean Easton didn’t even show up until the end which was kind of annoying. I am wondering if this is going to be a guy per book type of series or if it only seemed like that since this is the first book and everyone is still being introduced.

Aaron- I was incredibly confused by Aaron. I knew this was an RH and I knew that Elizabeth’s love interests would be dragons so, when Aaron appeared, I had no idea what to think. I didn’t know if I was supposed to ship him and Elizabeth or if he was just temporary. I still don’t completely know how I feel about Aaron if I am being honest.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I had a lot of fun while reading it and I will most likely be reading the next book. I am excited to get started on Elizabeth and the Call of Dragons.

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is one I am really excited about. It is: Favorite Couples In Books. I know I am only supposed to do ten, but I could only narrow my list down to twelve. I just love talking about my ships SO much and February is the month to share the love so… Let’s just get started!

12.

These two… I went on a little but of a journey with these two in the Fever Series. It took a little bit for these two to stop being stubborn and just get together but, when they did, it was FANTASTIC!

Serena and Hunter

These two are from the novella Obsession in the Lux Series. Honestly, even though the main series is about Katy and Daemon, these two stole the show for me. They became my favorite ship from the whole series with that single book. I am such a sucker for the anti-hero love story and I just fell in love with these two.

10.

Scarlet and Tristan

This trilogy started out as a love triangle, but soon turned into SO much more. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time with these two as a couple. I got attached to them really quickly and whenever they would have a set back, I felt like my heart was going to explode with frustration. I will forever remember how passionate I was that these two were supposed to end up together and how happy I was when they finally did.

I recently started rereading The Grey Wolves Series and I was reminded how much I love these two. They just fit together in a way that only mates can. They are perfect for each other and the back and forth between them is just hilarious to me.

Lily and Ezra

I know there are four people in the picture, but this isn’t a popular series so the only picture I could find of these two is this one. I am specifically referencing the two in the middle just so you know.

Anyways, Ezra and Lily are a couple that I fell in love with very quickly and I could not let go of them. I was worried for a while that they wouldn’t actually become a couple because they remain strictly platonic throughout the first book. About halfway through the second one though, fireworks start erupting between these two and I mean ERUPTING…

Actually, now that I started talking about these two, I want to reread this series just to experience the magic between them again. Hmm… I might have to make the Forever Evermore Series my reread for the month of March.

7.

Remington and Brooke

I am not a big fan of contemporary books, but this series made me realize what I was missing in them. That’s all I’ve got to say… Just read this series.

6.

Dorian and Manon

I know there are a lot of people that don’t get this ship, but when little glimpses of them as a couple started showing up, I was ALL FOR IT. I think that Manon and Dorian balance each other in a indescribable way and I really hope that when The World of Throne of Glass comes out, they are together. Kingdom of Ash left things a little too open ended for me.

Reed and Evie

These two had me stressed OUT when I read The Premonition Series. You see, over the course of the series, Evie has like four guys vying for her attention and I was DYING for her to end up with Reed. In fact, I became so obsessed with finding out that I stayed up for 26 hours straight doing nothing but reading the books. I could not go to sleep for the life of me because I could not get the series out of my head and I just had to know if Reed and Evie ended up together or not.

Rowan and Aelin

A little story time…

When I read Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight, I wasn’t crazy about Dorian or Chaol for Aelin. They just didn’t grab me. But when Heir of Fire came along, I saw Rowan and I was IN LOVE. As the book went on, I started shipping him and Aelin more and more. Unfortunately, it kept being said that they were mentor and student and strictly platonic. I tried to stop shipping them together since I thought that there was no hope and I did not want to get my heart broken because my ship wasn’t happening. Then, Queen of Shadows came along and MY SHIP WAS SAILING!I was positively overjoyed!

I know some people are still a little upset about these two becoming a ship, but I for one am extremely happy!

Jace and Clary

These two will always be near the top of my list, simply for the nostalgia that I associate with them. For those that don’t know, Jace and Clary were my first ever ship. They were the first ever couple that I fell in love with and there are just a lot of emotions that I have towards them.

My feelings about them were just moved to the forefront of my mind because of the bonus chapter, A Love That Never Tires, in Queen of Air and Darkness. I cried more in that one chapter than I did in the entire rest of the book. It just brought back all of these memories of my childhood and reminded me just how much I love Jace and Clary.

Will and Tessa

Something that I find really interesting is that, after I read The Mortal Instruments, some part of me refused to read The Infernal Devices. I was completely wrecked after the ending of City of Heavenly Fire and some part of me repelled the idea of reading another series. It took me three years to build up the heart to read this trilogy and I honestly believe that it was because God knew I would not be able to handle it. To handle the magnitude of Tessa and Will and Jem. This series TORE my heart out I still get choked up when someone mentions Will and Tessa. Don’t get me wrong, I love Herongraystairs as a ship, but when I read the series, I was Team Wessa all the way. I couldn’t get enough and each time they had a set back as a couple, I felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest. (A particular scene in Clockwork Prince comes to mind). Plus, don’t even get me started on the Epilogue of Clockwork Princess. This is just one ship that I will never get over.

Rhysand and Feyre

Anyone that knows me would have probably guessed that this couple would be at the top of my list. Whenever I think of Rhysand and Feyre, I immediately go into fangirl mode. I absolutely adore them together and I can’t get enough of them. Even though I know a lot of people got upset with them in ACOFAS, it only made me love them more. I can’t even begin to describe how I feel when it comes to these two and I honestly can’t see any ship ever replacing them for me.

Thank you for joining me on Top Ten Tuesday. I intentionally did not include any RH ships on this list because I felt like that would be cheating a little bit. Anyways, what are some of your favorite ships and what did you think of mine?
