Hello Lovelies! Today’s Top 5 Wednesday topic is:

SFF BFFs -BooktubeSFF Awards Crossover Topic-
— Discuss your favorite friends in Scifi and Fantasy, or characters you’d be BFFs with.

I ultimately decided to change this topic a little bit and make a post about five awesome book bloggers (who talk a lot about sci-fi and fantasy) that I consider my friends. All of the people below are absolutely wonderful, make great and unique content, and are always spreading love around the community. I highly encourage you to check them out!

Plus, a few weeks ago, one of the topics was Favorite SFF Booktubers, so I thought I’d shine some light on some book bloggers this week.

 Su @ Bemused Bibliophile

Su is just SO wonderful and a constant joy to talk to. We are always chatting back and forth over little things and it is something that I have come to really look forward to.

 Erik @ BreakEven Books

We just recently found each other when we bonded over our love of Red Rising and the GIFT that is Sevro au Barca, but we Erik and I are fast friends.

 Ally @ Ally Writes Things

I always look forward to Ally’s posts. She has some of the most unique and thought provoking discussions on her blog. I highly enjoy talking to her.

 Octavia @ Mythical Reads

Octavia and I have gone back and forth over many different things and we have even collabed together! I love talking to her and our collab is one of my favorite posts that I have done. It can be found here if you are interested.

Laura @ Laura Reads and Writes

Laura and I bonded over our love of Sarah J. Maas books and then things seemed to take off from there. We started talking about other authors, our favorite books, TV shows, movies, and just every day life. Now, I talk to her every day!

Plus, she is the only other person I have met that prefers Robb Stark over Jon Snow… KING ROBB FOREVER!!

Thank you for joining me today! Those were just a few of some amazing people we have in the bookish community! I’m hoping to do more posts like this in the future because there are SO many more book bloggers that deserve recognition. I hope that you check these people out (if you haven’t already)! Also, please feel free to leave a link to your T5W post so I can check yours out!

Top 5 Wednesday | Mother Figures

screenshot_2019-01-29 artstudio – dashboard(4)

Today’s Top 5 Wednesday topic is:

— In honor of Mother’s Day (in the US!), discuss your favorite mother figures. TRY to refrain from using HP characters. We all know those 🙂

I really struggled to come up with answers for this topic which is incredibly sad. Mothers, especially in YA, are either non-existent in their child’s lives, dead, or are abusive. It took me a really long time to come up with just five for this list which is appalling to me. We need to do better and this issue should be corrected.

Image result for esme twilight

∴ Esme | Twilight Series

Say what you want about the Twilight series, but Esme was a great character and an even greater mom. She was always there for anyone that needed her and she is one of my favorite characters in that series.

∴ Mercy | Mercy Thompson Series

Mercy might not have a biological child, but the way she treats her step-daughter Jesse just warms my heart. Mercy has a lot of problems in her life and a lot on her plate, but she still finds time to be a mom to Jesse.

∴ Persephone | Daughters of Olympus Series

Persephone sacrificed everything imaginable for her daughters in this series. Her freedom, her happiness, her chance at love, and even sacrificed the chance to get to know those daughters, just so that they would have the chance to live. She was a really great mom and I admire her greatly.

∴ Alina | The Grey Wolves Series

There are a lot of great female characters in this series, but Alina has always been one of my favorites. She is a mom to anyone in the pack and takes on the personal weight of everyone’s happiness. She reminds me a lot of my own mother.

∴ Cara | Dark Protectors Series

Cara does everything in her power to protect her daughter Janie in this book and throughout the series. Cara was a single mother and did her best to make her daughter happy. She tried to lighten the load that Janie (the girl prophesied to save the world) had to carry and give her a good childhood.

Thank you for joining me on Top 5 Wednesday! Do you have any books to recommend me that have great mothers in them? Plus, feel free to leave a link to your T5W post so I can see your answers!

Top 5 Wednesday | Books I’ve Changed My Mind About

screenshot_2019-01-29 artstudio – dashboard(4)

Hello Lovelies! Today’s Top 5 Wednesday topic is Bookish Things I’ve Changed My Mind About. We were given the option on what “bookish thing” we wanted to pick and I decided to go with Books That I’ve Changed My Mind About. So, here they are:

Image result for twilight books

∴ The Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer

Original Rating: 5 Stars | Current Rating: 3 Stars

I feel like just about everyone can relate to me when it comes to this series. I read it when there was a lot of hype surrounding it and I found the love triangle addictive. Looking back, I don’t know what my teenage brain was thinking. This series just isn’t that good and the only reason it is so popular is because people like to hate on it and because of the movies.

*I will say that I still highly enjoy the movies and I do rewatch them every year. They are a guilty pleasure of sorts for me.*

Image result for the selection series

∴ The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

Original Rating: 5 Stars | Current Rating: 3 Stars

I read this series when I was just getting into books and I really had nothing to compare it to, which is why I think I rated it so highly. I hadn’t really read much YA and this series just seemed so great when I read it. Looking back, I can see a lot of issues and the writing wasn’t anything special. I do still think that the concept is unique and the story line is addictive though.

Image result for fifty shades of grey series

∴ Fifty Shades of Grey Series by E.L. James

Original Rating: 5 Stars | Current Rating: 3 Stars

I read this series four years ago and, at the time, I was completely enthralled with the romance. I binge read all of the books (that were out at the time) and I ended up reading them all within a week. I thought that this series was the shit and that the writing was brilliant.

Now, after reading about 600 books since then, I have come to realize that this writing is just a bunch of meh amongst a sea of other books. As far as BDSM goes, there are tons of books out there about it and I’m not quite sure why this one became to famous. I can name plenty that are SO much better.

∴  Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows #2) by Leigh Bardugo

Original Rating: 5 Stars | Current Rating: 2.5 Stars

I can’t really say why I changed my rating of this book without giving away spoilers. I do go into further detail in my review which can be found here.

∴  City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments #2) by Cassandra Clare

Original Rating: 3 Stars | Current Rating: 5 Stars

This is the only book on this list where my opinion changed for the better. You see, when I first read this book, I wasn’t that into the story because I was a full on Clace shipper and all I cared about was their relationship. This is the book where Simon and Clary are trying to be in a relationship and I hated that whole aspect of the story. I just didn’t enjoy it and it affected my opinion of the whole book.

When I reread this book last year, my opinion completely changed. I knew how everything ended and I wasn’t as completely focused on the ships. Instead, I got to sit back and enjoy the plot and the development of the other characters, such as Alec and Magnus’s relationship.

Thank you for joining me on Top 5 Wednesday! What do you think about the books on my list? Do you agree with my original rating or my current rating? Also, please feel free to leave a link to your T5W post so I can look at your list!

Dark, Top 5 Wednesday

Top 5 Wednesday | Rainy Day Reads (Dark Books/Recs)

screenshot_2019-01-29 artstudio – dashboard(4)

Hello Lovelies! Today’s Top 5 Wednesday topic is Rainy Day Reads. This topic can be taken a number of different ways, but to me, it meant dark reads. The books on this list are ones that have a grim/gloomy vibe, made me cry, or just had some dark themes in them.

I loved every single one of the books on this list so this is also a recommendation post as well. If you’re like me and love books that tug on your heart and don’t always stay on the safe side, these are probably for you!

∴ Goodreads | My Review

This book just had a really dark and gloomy vibe for me. The setting was a main contributing factor to that, but the whole book just reinforced the idea.

∴ Goodreads | My Review

This book is literally about a group of triplets trying to kill each other for a throne. Need I say more? How much darker can you get?

 Goodreads | My Review

Believe it or not, this is NOT a horror novel. Though, the title leads you to believe so. There are actually a lot of funny scenes in it. But the majority of the book is dark. The themes in it, the characters, and the plot in general are all grim.

 Goodreads | My Review

This series!! It is good. It is SOOO good. It is about a girl that goes to Dublin to find her sister’s murderer and ends up encountering some supernaturals during her search. It has a lot of dark themes and the setting only contributes to that.

∴ Goodreads | My Review

This is a dark RH retelling of Alice in Wonderland. This book has a lot of dark themes and I guarantee you it isn’t the Wonderland you think you know.

Thank you for joining me on Top 5 Wednesday! What are some books on your rainy day reads list? Do you have any dark books to recommend because I would love some?! ~𝒜𝓊𝓉𝓊𝓂𝓃 💕

Top 5 Wednesday | Love Triangle Ships That Sunk

screenshot_2019-01-29 artstudio – dashboard(4)

Hello Lovelies! Today’s topic was originally Favorite Jokesters, but I decided to change it. Instead, I am going to be doing the potentially controversial topic: Love Triangle Ships That Sunk. This topic is going to be all about the love triangles where I chose the side that the main character did NOT end up with.

*Needless to say, this post will contain spoilers. Read at your own risk!*

Twilight (Twilight #1) by Stephenie Meyer

Why don’t we start out with one of the most known love triangles out there… Twilight. I personally feel like Bella should have ended up with Jacob. Almost always go with the werewolf over the vampire if you ask me.

∴  Unearthly (Unearthly #1) by Cynthia Hand

We are told from the beginning of this series that Clara is going to be with Christian and I was firmly on that ship. When Tucker came into the picture, I was not pleased. It felt like they fell in love over night and I was already hardcore shipping Christian and Clara. I felt like Christian understood her on a level that Tucker never could and I am still upset with how things ended.

∴  The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles #1) by Mary E. Pearson

I think I am in the unpopular opinion section when it comes to this series. I DID NOT want Lia to end up with Rafe at all in the first book. I was firmly on Team Kaden. When book two happened, I was even more convinced that she should end up with Kaden. I spent all of book three on the edge of my seat, waiting to see who she would choose. I was SO upset when she chose Rafe. Oh, well. If Lia doesn’t want him, I certainly do!

∴  Shadow and Bone (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy #1) by Leigh Bardugo

I stopped reading this series after book one, but I did find out eventually who Alina ended up with. And let me tell you, my opinion on this matter can be summed up with this post that I found on Instagram: *I’m going to go ahead an apologize for the language*

∴  The Darkest Warrior (Lords of the Underworld #14) by Gena Showalter

I believe just about everyone in the fandom will agree with me on this one… GILLY SHOULD HAVE ENDED UP WITH WILLIAM!!!! NOT THE HALF-GOAT MAN!! For those that haven’t read this series, the author basically teased a pairing for eight years, tried to write their book, and then out of the blue decided that it “wouldn’t work”. This really angered her fan base. The author later received death threats over it. And if you go to Goodreads, this book has a drastically lower rating than the other books in the series. I even have some friends that refuse to read another book by this author ever again because of it.

I thought about it and I decided to include a couple of my TV show love triangle ships that sunk as well. Obviously, there are spoilers ahead:

∴ The Vampire Diaries

I wanted Elena to end up with Stefan. Before you start throwing things at me, let me explain:

1) I personally believe that, while Elena was good for Damon, Damon was NOT good for Elena. She made some really bad decisions because of him.

2) I hated the way that the whole sire bond thing went down. NO ONE can tell me without a shadow of a doubt that Elena would have picked Damon without the sire bond.

3) Damon constantly took away Elena’s choices and refused to let her make her own decisions. This is not healthy and should not be depicted as such. Stefan, instead of holding Elena back when he didn’t agree with her, would help her so she wasn’t alone when she decided to do something stupid.

4) Elena ends up with Stefan in the books. It’s canon. Book canon always out-weights adaptation canon.

∴ True Blood

SOOKIE SHOULD HAVE ENDED UP WITH ERIC!!!! I don’t know what went down in the books, but the ending to the TV show was arguably the worst ending I have ever seen. I am still really salty about it. I would have snatched Eric up and never let go if I were Sookie.

Thank you for joining me on Top 5 Wednesday! Do you agree with me on if these characters ended up with the wrong people? Do you have any that I didn’t mention? ~𝒜𝓊𝓉𝓊𝓂𝓃

Today’s Top 5 Wednesday topic was originally Collectibles on Your Bookshelf, but since I had already done a more in-depth post on that topic last week (Bookish Items That I Absolutely Love), I decided to go with a different one. That is Upcoming Anticipated Contemporary Romance Releases. I am a big romance reader and a lot of books that I have been waiting for are coming out soon. Here they are:

Top 5 Wednesday | Books You Thought You’d Hate But Ended Up Loving

screenshot_2019-01-29 artstudio – dashboard(4)

Hello Lovelies! Today’s Top 5 Wednesday topic was hard to come up with answers for. It is Books You Thought You’d Hate But Ended Up Loving. This was hard for me because if I read a synopsis for a book and it doesn’t sound like something I would enjoy, I drop it and move on. Needless to say, I had to dig deep for this topic. Here is my list:

∴  Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles #2) by Marissa Meyer

This book was a surprise for me when I read it. I hated the first book and I only continued the series because people kept saying that the series got better. I am so glad I did because I LOVED this book. I ate the story up and made me start to really enjoy the series.

My review of this book can be found here.

∴  Six of Crows (Six of Crows #1) by Leigh Bardugo

Anyone that knows me knows that I have had a rocky road with Leigh Bardugo’s books. I read Shadow and Bone and absolutely hated it (for reasons that I won’t get into right now). It took me a while but I finally decided to give this book a try because of all the hype surrounding it. I ended up loving it and was glad that I gave Leigh Bardugo’s books a second chance. Of course, that was completely ruined when I read Crooked Kingdom.

My review of this book can be found here.

∴  Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass #6) by Sarah J. Maas

I loved everything about the Throne of Glass world… except for Chaol. I never really liked him when I read the first book, but any positive feelings that I had for him left in the second and even further in the fourth one. So, originally, I wasn’t planning on reading this. The only reason I did was because Sarah came to Georgia for the ToD tour and I got to go. While there, she said that this book was absolutely necessary to read before the last book and I begrudgingly read it. And look at my surprise when I LOVED this book.

My review of this book can be found here.

∴  Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices #1) by Cassandra Clare

I’m not gonna lie, I was really hesitant to read this book. I had gotten my heart broken by Cassie more than a couple times and I didn’t know if I wanted to open myself up for that again. Even less so when I found out that this was a love triangle. I HATE love triangles and when I saw this book, I wanted nothing to do with it. Skip forward three years and I picked up Lady Midnight and loved it. It made me crave some more of Cassie’s writing so I decided to give this trilogy a try. And let me tell you.. That was one of the best decisions I have ever made. To this day, this is my favorite series by Cassandra Clare and will continue to be one of my favorites of all time forever. I only regret those three years that I didn’t pick this book up and discover these characters sooner.

∴  Chosen Thief (Forever Evermore #4) by Scarlett Dawn

The reason that I thought I would dislike this book is quite simple. The first three books follow a set of characters and this book is kind of a spin-off with different characters set about 20 years later. I didn’t know how I was going to feel about this world without the main characters that I had been following for three books already. I was convinced that I would hate this book and DNF it. I was SOOOO wrong. This book opened up the world even more than I thought it could and I ended up binge reading it and the two after it in just two days. I couldn’t get enough and waiting for the final book has been absolute torture.

My review of this book can be found here.

Even though this topic was hard to come up with answers for, I am glad I did it. It made me come back to some series that I had forgotten and I went down memory lane a couple times while writing this list. What are some books that you thought you would hate but ended up loving? Let me know.   ~𝒜𝓊𝓉𝓊𝓂𝓃
