Hello Lovelies! Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Things That Make Me Pick Up a Book. This was harder than I thought it would be to come up with answers for. Most of the time, I pick up a book for one of three reasons and I had to dig deep and think of special occasions to come up with my other seven answers. Here they are:
I feel like this answer is obvious. The cover is the first thing you see in a book store and it is what immediately draws my attention.
This is another obvious answer. We all have auto-buy authors. There have also been times when I saw a series by an author that I had read before and bought the new series simply because I knew I liked the author’s writing style.
I have done this more often than I would like to admit. In fact, I have found a lot of my favorite authors this way.
This one is one of the main reasons I pick a book up. Whether it is through Goodreads, a friend, or a book group that I am a part of.
This wasn’t a big thing for me until recently. After I really got into the RH genre. If I saw that a book was grouped under the RH genre, I immediately added it to my TBR. This inspired me to have a completely separate RH TBR Goodreads shelf.
This is probably the most popular answer for this topic. I mean, how many people read a book if they don’t like/aren’t interested in the synopsis?
𝐹𝓇𝒾𝑒𝓃𝒹/𝒫𝑒𝑜𝓅𝓁𝑒 𝐼 𝐹𝑜𝓁𝓁𝑜𝓌’𝓈 𝑅𝑒𝓋𝒾𝑒𝓌𝓈
You know how Goodreads has that “Friends Reviews” or “Reviews From People You Follow” section? That’s what I’m talking about here. When I see a friend that rates similar to how I do rate a book high, I more often than not add it to my TBR.
𝐵𝓎 𝒬𝓊𝑜𝓉𝑒𝓈 𝒮𝑒𝑒𝓃
If one of my friends has a review and I see some quotes that grab me, I will probably give the book a try. I love collecting quotes and I always want to know what they mean if I see a preview of them in a review.
𝒯𝒽𝑒 𝒯𝒾𝓉𝓁𝑒/𝒮𝑒𝓇𝒾𝑒𝓈 𝒯𝒾𝓉𝓁𝑒
This happens a lot for me. It is actually how I discovered the Throne of Glass series. I was walking through the bookstore and I saw the title Queen of Shadows. It made me immediately want to pick the series up because the title sounded interesting.
𝒮𝑜𝓂𝑒𝑜𝓃𝑒 𝒜𝓈𝓀𝑒𝒹 𝑀𝑒 𝓉𝑜 𝑅𝑒𝓋𝒾𝑒𝓌
This is another kind of obvious answer. As a blogger, I am going to get asked to review books and I have come across a few that I have enjoyed because the author/publisher asked me to review it.
