∴ Smiley (New Species #13) by Laurann Dohner

Synopsis:

Vanni is furious when her fiancé tricks her into attending a conference where his father’s church is protesting the New Species Organization. She hates everything those vile bigots stand for. Vanni goes to the bar to cool off and ends up seated next to a handsome New Species. Things heat up fast when they are both drugged.

Smiley doesn’t want to believe the sweet human would dose them with the breeding drug. He’s willing to trust her and determined to save her life. He’ll hold her. Protect her. Offer up his body to distract them both from the pain. She is his female, even if she doesn’t realize it yet.

JANUARY 16, 2019 REVIEW (5 STARS)-
MINOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I just absolutely love and adore this book. It was even better than the first time I read it, which I didn’t think was possible. I got so many feels and I went into cuteness overload more than a few times.

Smiley- I have and always will love Smiley. We meet him in the earlier books and he never strayed far from the background. He was always sweet and a little shy in the other books, but in this book, he took center stage and shined. Everything that came out of his mouth made me swoon and made my heart melt. I truly believe that if more men in the world were like Smiley, we would have way less problems.

Vanni- One thing that I really love about this book is the progression of Vanni’s character. She starts off very timid and ashamed of her body. The men in her life have put her down and she has no self-confidence. After she meets Smiley, he starts to show her that she is perfect how she is and Vanni slowly starts to come out of her shell. By the end of the book, she is a totally different person and it really is a sight to see. Isn’t that what everyone wants in a relationship? For the other person to make you embrace yourself for who you are and accept your flaws? That is exactly the type of relationship that Vanni and Smiley have and I just adore it.

Beth- I couldn’t not write this review without mentioning Beth. Every time she appeared on the page, I was dying laughing. I would highly enjoy if she became one of the female leads in the future. Maybe she could be Jericho’s mate? I would love to read a story about those two. I know it would be highly entertaining.

I really enjoyed my reread of this book. I am still debating on if I will be reading the next book since it is split into two parts and wasn’t my favorite. Nonetheless, I love this series to the bottom of my heart and I truly hope that Laurann Dohner decides to continue it. There are just so many places she can go and I will never get tired of reading about this world and these characters.

DECEMBER 22, 2017 REVIEW (5 STARS)-
I loved this book! I got so many feels and I really didn’t want to put it down. I made the mistake of starting it at night so when it was time to go to sleep, I couldn’t because I couldn’t get this book out of my head. It was fast paced and constantly had my attention. It started off with a bang and only got better from there.

I loved Smiley. He was absolutely adorable . He was so caring and sweet. He tames bears for crying out loud. If that doesn’t scream sweet and adorable, I don’t know what does. He always put Vanni first and would do literally anything to make her happy. He always said the right thing and tried to be the best possible mate he could be. His concern for her and always putting her needs first really struck something with me. Everything he said he felt I could feel that he meant it and I loved that about him. He is definitely my favorite leading male character so far.

Vanni was great. She was really sweet and shy which was a little different from the past leading females. I liked how she fought when she had to and I loved watching her grow more comfortable with Smiley and herself throughout the book. I feel like her and Smiley were exactly what the other needed and I am so happy they found each other.

Honorable Mentions: Beth. I really liked her character. She was straightforward and was always there when Vanni needed her. I really enjoyed getting to meet her and I hope to see more of her in the future. This is my favorite book in the series so far and I can’t wait to read the next one!
