Synopsis:

So, I’ve checked off some life goals and added a few new ones to my list.

Goal #5: Get out of hell’s belly without letting my ungrateful charges die.

Goal #6: Get a new name that’s more badass.

Goal #7: Stop wasting my breath on lectures and start annoying the quad hell squad every time they annoy me. Fight fire with fire. Ha! Another hell pun.

Goal 8: Find out who the hell killed me.

I’ll add more. I don’t want to overwhelm myself before I even finish checking off my old goals. But seriously, I really do need a more badass name, considering how much I have to keep saving my damsels in distress.

I probably shouldn’t call them damsels, since they’re a little murderous and all.

Maybe I should add seeing a hell-certified psychologist to my list of goals.

You loved so hard, you did the impossible.โ€

MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
After the last book, I thought that this series couldn’t possibly get any better. I. WAS. SO. WRONG. This sequel was phenomenal, heart pounding, absolutely shocking, and one hell of a ride.

Keyla/Paca- Oh. My. God. Could I love her character more? I don’t think so. She is badass, hilarious, and a straight up awesome character. Her thought process intrigues me and always has me laughing. I live for watching her figure things out and I highly enjoy whatever reaction she chooses to have. She makes this series for me and doesn’t let the male characters out shine her. She is a flawed anti-heroine, and I love her more for it.

โ€œMy feelings were only getting hurt in the beginning. When it was all of you against me. Ezekiel is my special boy because he was the first to gift me with hope. Kai is like a willful drug, because I truly enjoy the attention he pays me, even when heโ€™s so surly he couldnโ€™t possibly have a gentle bone in his body. Gage is my current favorite because I know without a doubt he finally sees me as what I am.โ€
He turns to me, his brow furrowing. โ€œAnd what is that?โ€
โ€œAll of yours,โ€ I state as though it should be obvious.

*sighs* I just loved that part!

Jude- Jude grew on me a little in this book. He has definitely progressed and he has finally gotten past the “treacherous treasure” thing… He’s still an asshole though. I would have liked to see a little more guilt from him after the Lake thing.

Ezekiel- Ezekiel, my precious, War baby, Ezekiel. I love him so much and, even though I got a little frustrated with him at the beginning of this book, I still find him incredibly endearing. I really appreciate how he will sit down and just listen to Paca. I feel like this series would go a lot more smoothly if all the guys did that.

Kai- I will admit, I didn’t like Kai at first and I definitely had less than nice things to say about him in my last review. He was selfish and pompous in the first book and I stand by that. In this book though, he was an absolute sweetheart who finally tore his head out of his own ass. Praise the Lord!

Gage- I went into this book with a rather neutral opinion of Gage because I didn’t really know that much about him. After reading this book however, I know all I need to know… which is that I love him. He pushes Paca and challenges her, but he isn’t an asshole about it. He will support her when she needs it, but he will still ask the hard questions and voice his concerns. That is absolutely fantastic and I think Jude needs to stop and pay attention to that a little bit more. He would get farther with Paca if he did.

Lamar- I knew-I KNEW!-That he would play a bigger role than Manella’s “damsel in distress” lover! I had no clue what role he would play and I couldn’t have been farther off from the truth, but that’s not the point. He was Paca’s supportive and loyal best friend and I am all here for it. I can’t wait to get more information on their past lives together.

Lake- That little traitor can go to the dark heart of hell. I knew that she would be trouble from the moment that her name was mentioned and when she actually showed up, I was utterly convinced. I said in my last review that the guys should trust less people and now look where it got them?! Paca was killed for crying out loud. I’m honestly still a little upset about that, to be honest.

Lucifer- Okay… so I’m not really sure where he stands. I don’t think he killed Paca and her men. I could be wrong, but I really don’t think he did it. There has to be someone else pulling all of these strings behind the scenes.

What I Liked- Uh.. Everything! This book was perfect. But, let’s focus on my favorite part: That plot twist. It was absolutely epic and I did not see it coming. From around the 70%-80% marks, my mind was getting blown again and again. The layers it took to weave that together were done so thoroughly, I never even saw it coming! That is how you write a plot twist, people! I also really love how the author keeps tying in historical events/people like Cleopatra, Hera, or Jack the Ripper into the story. It makes things really interesting and I am so curious to find out more about these people.

What I Didn’t Like- Nothing really. Though, I am still a little confused how this purities/impurities balance thing works. I wish it would have been explained a little bit more thoroughly.

Overall, this book was great and I highly enjoyed it. Of course I will be continuing the series. I can’t wait to get my hands on Two Kingdoms and to start reading!

Synopsis:

I’m not so different from most people.
Like everyone else, I have life goals.

Goal #1: Become a real girl instead of this invisible ghost thing I currently am.

Goal #2: Convince the four men I’ve been haunting for the past five years to pick me to be their new toy after goal one is complete.

Goal #3: Figure out who/what I am and why I can’t remember anything past the five years I’ve been haunting this quad.

Goal #4: Eat popcorn.

See? Perfectly normal. Sort of.
Gotta start small, after all.
It’s not like anyone else is perfect either.

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

I interrupt Kai, since itโ€™s my turn to talk. โ€œThere are two types of people,โ€ I say to him, and he narrows his eyes on me. โ€œThose who listen, and those who merely wait for their turn to talk.โ€

MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK. It was fast paced, constantly had my attention, and I could not put it down for the life of me. The plot was enthralling and I was hooked immediately! The time just flew by while reading and, before I knew it, I was done.

Keyla- I liked Keyla and I really connected with her. One of my biggest fears is to be alone or to wake up with no one there to see me. Keyla had to live through that for five years. I can’t even imagine how lonely she must have felt and it makes me sad to think about. I wanted her to experience being real and hearing her talk about simple things that I take for granted (like the ability to touch things) made me feel so bad for her. She really is a good person and I enjoyed being in her head. I didn’t appreciate how the guys treated Keyla in the beginning. Watching them siphon away from her when they knew she would fade made me incredibly sad for her and it really made the guys come across as assholes.

Jude- I don’t really know how I feel about him. He is so hot and cold that it is hard to figure him out. I understand why he acts the way he does towards Keyla, but I don’t understand why he continues to do so after all that she did for him and his friends.

Ezekiel- I loved Ezekiel so much and I just wanted to hug him! He actually gave Keyla a chance and I feel like he is the only one that even tried to get to know her. That really endeared him to me.

Kai- Kai got on my nerves a lot in the beginning with his pompous attitude. He just came off really entitled and I didn’t like the way he treated Keyla. Fortunately, she knows how to knock him down a peg or two.

Gage- I don’t really know how I feel about Gage. I felt like his personality was the least developed out of the guys and that makes it hard to form an opinion on him. He didn’t do anything to tick me off so I suppose that’s a good sign.

Lamar- I liked what I got to see of his character and I really want to see more of him. I also want to learn more about his abilities and what makes him so powerful.

Manella- I am SO glad that he didn’t end up being the villain (or at least not yet). I feel like villainous characters are a lot more compelling when you see why they are that way instead of just being told that they are evil for no reason (which Manella was). The guys just tell Keyla at the beginning that Manella was the bad person that was out to get them and we were supposed to automatically believe it and hate him. I like how things turned out a lot better.

Lucifer- I was so excited when he showed up. He is such a more compelling villain than Manella ever would have been. There are just so many facets to his character and I like the idea of never knowing what side Lucifer is truly on.

Harold- I am kind of suspicious of him, to be honest. I mean, he is supposed to be this all powerful Elder, yet he couldn’t tell whether it was actually Lamar that stabbed him? That is just really fishy to me. The guys were wrong about Manella so maybe they should be more skeptical of who they trust; Harold being one of them.

What I Liked- Pretty much everything. The devils/angels/demons/reapers thing has always intrigued me and I felt like this book brought those aspects together perfectly. The world was described so vividly and I can’t wait to see more of it.

What I Didn’t Like- I didn’t like and still don’t completely understand why the guys and Keyla won’t just suck it up and get together already. They know that they want each other so why don’t they just act on it already?!

Honorable Mentions- That first chapter! That was the most entertaining first chapter I have ever read and I was hooked from the very first page. It started immediately with a bang *winks ridiculously* and was just so captivating.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I will be continuing the series with, Three Trials and I can’t wait to start reading!

โˆดย Chosen One (Forever Evermore #6) by Scarlett Dawn โˆด

Synopsis:

The next book in the best-selling Forever Evermore series as Caro goes where no spirit elemental has gone before…

When Philip Masterson sends Caro back in time, he doesnโ€™t expect to set off a series of events that will see her return stronger and more powerful than ever before. But her time spent with the Prodigies, Kings, and Elders in the nineties has long-reaching consequences that no one could have foreseen, consequences that increase tensions between the Mystical leadership when peace is needed.

Then Caro discovers something that changes the entire trajectory of her life, and finds herself torn: between the man she loves and the man who could mean everything, and the life that sheโ€™s chosen and the life that she was born to lead.

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I loved this book. It was fast paced and constantly had my attention. It gave me all of the feels and I was constantly going into fan-girl mode while reading it. I didn’t want to put it down! Let me start out by saying that I went into this book thinking it was the final installment for Caro’s character. I had no idea that this wasn’t the last book for her so everything I thought was going to happen didn’t. I probably should have looked up if this was the last one after the first few chapters but I didn’t which is totally my fault.
I liked Caro. I love her character arc from the first book to now. I love her snark and her overall attitude. She is badass when she needs to be but she still has that softer side. I like that she can take care of herself and can fight her own battles. I was really proud of her in this book because her life went through a lot of ups and downs but she still pulled through and continued to persevere. She didn’t let personal betrayals get in the way of the overall goal which was really hard for her so I admire her greatly for that.
I still don’t know what to make of Caro’s relationship drama. Every time I think she has picked someone to stay with, Scarlett Dawn flips everything and that person has no chance anymore. People I never really gave a shot are now in the running for Caro’s heart.
At this point, I am kind of pulling for Cain even though their relationship is rocky at best. I enjoy the dynamic between Cain and Caro. I don’t usually enjoy love/hate relationships but they are unique and I actually enjoy it. About halfway through the book, I thought that Cain was definitely going to be end game but after that final scene, I really don’t know. Every time I think that Sin and Caro are just friends, he goes and pulls something like he did in the final scene.
Honorable Mention: I really liked Caro’s friendships with Elder Fergus, Elder Venclaire, Elder Nelson, and Elder Kincaid in the nineties. I loved how Caro finally found people she could bond with besides Sin. I thought it was hilarious how protective they all were of her and I liked getting to see all of them when they were the Prodigies. I only wish we would have gotten to see more of them before Caro had to go back to 2035.
Overall, I loved this installment in the series and I am dying to read the next book. This book ended with so many questions unanswered and I just need to know what happens next. I have no doubt that Scarlett Dawn will write a phenomenal ending for Caro’s story and I can’t wait!

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

โ€œOthers have been trying to speak with you, and you can’t hear them.’
I raised my brows, stating dryly, ‘That’s the point.โ€

What can I say? I love this series! Every book provides something new and I love every minute of it. The character relationships are unique and great. The plot is fast paced and always has my attention. The plot twists constantly leave me reeling because I never see them coming. I don’t want this series to end because I am having such a great time with it.
Caro was great as usual. Her snark and her badassery makes her a fun female character that I constantly want to know more about. Every time I think I have figured her out, I learn something new about her that completely shocks me. For example, I found out in this book that she was abused up until about 22 years old. And when I say abuse, I mean traumatizing, never get over it kind of abuse. I felt so bad for Caro when I found out and I was shocked to learn how she held herself together through it all. I admire her greatly for her bravery and tenacity through what she went through her whole life.
Caro’s love life is a mess. If I am being honest, I have NO clue who she is going to end up with. Every time I think I know, Scarlett Dawn flips it around. People I think are big contenders to end up with her end up betraying her and are now a no go. People I never really considered are now in the running. Fortunately, I will be happy with just about anyone she ends up with as long as they treat her how she deserves and she is happy.
Overall, I love this series and I enjoy every new installment. I will DEFINITELY be reading the next book. How could I not after that cliffhanger?!

โ€œI didn’t know I was talking to the President of the United States. I thought it was someone pranking you. I swear!โ€

Wow. Just wow. I LOVED THIS BOOK. I loved the new characters and the old. I loved the plot. I loved the pacing. I loved everything about this book! I didn’t want to put it down and I had a lot of fun while reading it.
I loved Caro. She was so fierce and I loved her snarkiness. She was definitely my favorite part of this book. I enjoyed what we got of her and I can’t wait to know more. I loved her relationship with Sin and I enjoyed trying to figure it out. I liked that she wasn’t afraid to stand up to people in power and how she wouldn’t back down when it came to something she believed in. I am very interested who she will end up with because she has like five love interests right now which creates a lot of drama. I am so excited.
Overall, I adored this book. I am very interested in finding out more about the Spirit Elementals and all of the new characters introduced from the faction. This is easily one of my favorite series and I can’t wait to read the next book.

โˆดย King Tomb (Forever Evermore #3) by Scarlett Dawn โˆด

Synopsis:

From Scarlett Dawn comes the stunning, sexy, sensual, surprising, spell-binding conclusion to the best-selling first Forever Evermore trilogy.

Queen Shifter, Lily Ruckler, has found solace in brutal warfare. Her bloodied fists and bared fangs fill the holes left in her memory, the blank spaces that leave her soul aching and empty. Her only pleasure is in blood; her only salvation is the relationship she has with her infant child, the baby of unknown origins who brings her solace and stability.

When Elder Harcourt summons Lily and her protector Antonio back to the United States, Lily thinks nothing unusual about the change of location. But a standard reconnaissance mission leaves her trapped inside King Zellerโ€™s private quarters, and at his mercy. Surprise attraction rapidly turns to a battle of wills and an intense power struggle that leaves no clear victor but plenty of resentment.

They are not allowed to nurse their wounds. In order to win the war against the Commoners, the King Vampire and Queen Shifter must work together. It should be easy. The war is turning, the battle is deadly, and both Lily and Ezra love the cold cleanliness of combat. But their chance meeting has led to more than an unlikely alliance. Secrets have a way of surfacing, especially on a torn-up battlefield, and Lily and Ezra are about to re-learn all they cannot remember. If they canโ€™t control their emotions and responses, it will be to their own ruin and the destruction of everything around them.

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

โ€œHello, everyone.โ€ I didnโ€™t think lying was an option, appearing as I did, so I told the truth. โ€œIโ€™ve come to kill you all. It would be much easier if you would kindly stand still.โ€

I really liked this conclusion to the first trilogy of this series. I felt like it was a good ending even though there are some things left unanswered. I do think Scarlett Dawn left it that way because of the next trilogy. Let me say that I did like this book and I really like this series. This final book just wasn’t as good as the second book, King Cave, was and it didn’t feel right to give this book the same rating as I gave King Cave which is why I deducted a star.
My only complaint with this book was that it was too short. To show an appropriate comparison, King Cave is 432 pages compared to King Tomb (this one) which is only 209 pages. There were many scenes that were rushed and I didn’t get the full extent of the story because of it. For example, the Jack, Pearl, Ezra, and Lily reunion scene was so brief that I didn’t get to feel all of the emotions that I wanted to feel with it. I think that if Scarlett Dawn would have slowed the important scenes down and gave more detail, I think this book would have been much better.
Overall, I did enjoy this book and I thought that all of the events that happened were satisfactory for the end of this first trilogy. I still love this series a lot and I will definitely be reading the second and third trilogies in the series.

It should have been too much, but she is not alone. Ezra becomes her rock, her best friend, the one person who understands. As Pearl and Jack struggle with inconsolable loss, Ezra and Lily work to keep the Mys community safe in their new home, and plan a deadly retaliation.

Their friendship saves them both…but it also draws attention. Whispers. Judgment. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

โ€œItโ€™s the beauty that helps us return from the harshness. If it wasnโ€™t there, we would have nothing to live for.โ€

MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
Wow… I have no words to describe how much I loved this book! It was beautiful, phenomenal, flawless, and everything I knew and didn’t know I wanted in a book. This is easily becoming one of my favorite series by this book alone. Also, this is easily my favorite read of 2018 so far.
I love that Scarlett Dawn isn’t afraid to take risks. She kills characters and makes it where there are true and permanent consequences for other characters’ actions. I am constantly shocked with what she does with this story and bringing twists to it that I never saw coming. I love all of the plot twists even though some of them rip my heart out, and I really enjoy just the sheer uniqueness of her world that she has created. It may be centered in the human world, but I have honestly never read a series similar to her Mys world.
Lily is easily one of my favorite characters ever. She stands up for what she believes in and will do anything to protect those she loves. She isn’t weak enough to let people walk all over her but she can admit when she needs help which I feel is the perfect balance needed for a great female character. I feel really bad for all that has happened to Lily and her resilience through it all is astounding. Sometimes, I have no idea how she gets up in the morning and acts normal with some of the things that have happened to her in this book alone. I am very interested to see where her story goes in the next book. I just hope that she eventually gets a happy ending because she deserves it.
Ezra is so great. I love how protective he is of Lily and I know that no matter what, he loves her and will be there for her no matter what. I was really happy when a relationship budded between him and Lily because I knew that they were a perfect balance for each other. I was heartbroken when their memories were wiped. I really hope that they find their way back to each other, especially after finding out Lily is pregnant.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It is easily one of my favorite books ever and I would give it all the stars in the world if I could. I will definitely be continuing the series because I couldn’t imagine not finding out what is going to happen to all of my precious babies.

Synopsis:

A fresh, meaty, sink-your-teeth-in-and-hold-on-tight new adult fantasy series kicks off with King Hallโ€ฆ

King Hall โ€” where the Mysticals go to learn their craft, get their degrees, and transition into adulthood. And where four new Rulers will rise and meet their destinies.

Lily Ruckler is adept at one thing:ย  survival.ย  Born a Mystical hybrid, her mere existence is forbidden, but her nightmare is only about to start. Fluke, happenstance, and a deep personal loss finds Lily deeply entrenched with those who would destroy her simply for existing โ€” The Mystical Kings.ย  Being named future Queen of the Shifters shoves Lily into the spotlight, making her one of the most visible Mysticals in the world. But with risk comes a certain solace โ€” her burgeoning friendships with the other three Prodigies: a wicked Vampire, a wild-child Mage, and a playboy Elemental. Backed by their faith and trust, Lily begins to relax into her new life.

Then chaos erupts as the fragile peace between Commoners and Mysticals is broken, and suddenly Lily realises the greatest threat was never from within, and her fear takes on a new name: the revolution.

โ€œIf I wasnโ€™t mated, and wasnโ€™t straight, and you were a Mage, and we hadnโ€™t made that pact for friendshipโ€™s sake, I would totally screw you.โ€

Wow… Just… wow. I don’t even know where to begin because this book was just that good. It was fast paced, action packed, took risks, had great characters, a cool magic system, and had an all in all great plot. If I am being completely honest, I was completely shocked by everything in this book. I had no idea where the plot was going to go and whenever I thought I did, Scarlett Dawn would flip it around and completely blindside me. She wasn’t afraid to kill off characters and wasn’t afraid to take risks with the plot which is what truly makes this book unique.
I loved all of the characters and I really enjoyed the relationships between Pearl, Jack, Ezra, and Lily. I didn’t expect them to grow as close as they did so I was constantly surprised with their actions toward each other. I loved watching them defend each other and how they were willing to change some of the base rules of the Mys world so they could stay close to each other and remain friends. I am very interested to see how their relationships with each other will evolve in the next book following the events in this one.
I loved this book and I am barely able to tamper down my excitement to start the next one. One thing that surprised me was the lack of love story in this book. What shocked me more was the fact that I still enjoyed the book even though there was little/no romance. I read books for the love stories in them so for me to love this book even though it doesn’t have one? It must truly be great. I think that is what hooked me most (but I am still hoping for a little romance in future installments). This was a great start to the series and I have really high hopes for the next installment and the ones after that.

MINOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I liked this installment in the Anita Blake series. There were parts of it that I really enjoyed, such as seeing Anita and Jason grow closer, but there were also parts that I found extremely annoying, such as the whole Richard part towards the end of the book.
Jason and Anita have always had an interesting relationship to me. They love each other, but they are both fine with being with other people and they both accept that they are not each other’s one and only. They are both fine with hooking up every now and then but they would also be perfectly fine with not sleeping with each other at all. And in some ways, Jason and Anita understand each other better than any of Anita’s other men ever will. I felt like this book developed their relationship a lot more and Jason and Anita are closer than ever. Watching them together was my favorite part of this book.
As far as the negatives go, I don’t really know what to say. At this point, I have read enough of this series to not expect to be blown away while reading it. I go into each one of the Anita Blake books for the relationship drama and I don’t really expect to enjoy anything else. I am perfectly fine with that, but I can definitely see why other people would not be.
SIDE NOTE: I am extremely curious where Laurell K. Hamilton is going with this tiger shifter plot line.
Overall, I did enjoy this installment. I missed Micah, Nathaniel, and Jean Claude which is the main reason I didn’t like this book as much as the other installments. I will be reading the next book, Skin Trade.
