City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) by Cassandra Clare

∴ City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) by Cassandra Clare

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know…

“Have you fallen in love with the wrong person yet?’
Jace said, “Unfortunately, Lady of the Haven, my one true love remains myself.”
…”At least,” she said, “you don’t have to worry about rejection, Jace Wayland.”
“Not necessarily. I turn myself down occasionally, just to keep it interesting.”

This series by Cassandra Clare is so enriching and satisfying. I have read this book twice now and it never ceases to amaze me. I read the book 3 years ago and decided to check it out again because my memory of the series was faltering. I remembered how the book ended and some of the main plot points but there were many things I had forgotten. I also remembered that I absolutely loved the book, I had just forgotten how much until I reread it. The series, to this day, is still in my top 5 favorite series. I absolutely love this series and this book too. The first novel by Cassie is beautifully written and opens your eyes to a world that you wished you lived in. She has a way of making you fall in love with all of her characters. You can’t read this book and not identify with at least one of them. When their hearts break, yours will too. I highly recommend this book and I know you will enjoy it. Cassie has a way of stealing your heart in her novels and making you love every minute of it. Read this book!
